Description

PROMETEO (Technologies for comprehensive fight against forest fires and for the conservation of our forests) is a project partially supported by the Spanish Centre for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), through the Spanish CENIT2010 Program. This project’s high interest has allowed it to be qualified as “CENIT 2010 Strategic National Consortium of Technical Research.”

UC3M is participating in this project as a Research Centre associated to EXPACE Company. The work of RoboticsLab is focused on “Generate knowledge on the behavior of major forest fires in order to model its evolution by multispectral information raised in situ during the spread of the fire”. This project has as its principal objective the support of the conservation of our forest mass, optimizing resources that public administrations have access to for this purpose, through the development of new techniques that allow us to minimize the risk of forest fires and mitigate the ecological damage caused by fires.

EXPACE, in collaboration with the Carlos III University, will be developing new guided and self-propelled suffocation systems for forest firefighting at night. EXPACE introduces with this research, the guidance system, enhancing the existing devices and giving an alternative capacity using sensors to identify the objectives actually under extinction from the firefighting staff. This issue is important not only to increase the effectiveness of firefighting tasks as well as to increase the safety of land personnel.

The PROMETEO Consortium led by INAER Helicopters, consists of the following partners: HISPASAT, INAER Maintenance, Telvent, IndraEspacio, Deimos Imaging, Isdefe, Tecnolsylva, Expace, Geacam, Vaersa, Brainstorm, Aries, Indra Software Lab and InnovaTec.

PROMETEO counts on the participation of 15 public research agencies: UPV, UCO, UCLM, USAL, FADA-CATEC, Tecnalia, FGMA, UPM, UPC, UC3M, USC, INTA, LATUV, FCSCL and ITI.
