Development of computer vision techniques for the alignment of Heliostats

Description

En las plantas solares de torre, miles de espejos seguidores (heliostatos) concentran la radiación solar en un receptor para producir electricidad. Un error de alineamiento en estos heliostatos de tan sólo 2 mrad produce alrededor de un 30% de pérdidas en la producción energética anual de este tipo de plantas.

Las técnicas existentes para alinear (cantear y enfocar) las facetas de los heliostatos requieren mucho tiempo o son demasiado imprecisas. Este proyecto, claramente multidisciplinar, propone la combinación de modelos basados en óptica geométrica y técnicas de visión por computador se pretende desarrollar una nueva metodología que supere las limitaciones del estado del arte. El objetivo del presente proyecto es desarrollar y validar una nueva técnica para determinar, en tiempo razonable y con precisión, ambos errores de alineamiento en heliostatos (canteo y enfoque) con la finalidad de mejorar la eficiencia de las plantas solares.

Para la consecución del proyecto, se ha establecido un plan de trabajo que incluye el desarrollo de modelos, sistemas y herramientas informáticas y la construcción de una instalación experimental para validar la técnica. En la fase final se realizará una prueba de campo en una planta de heliostatos real. La Plataforma Solar de Almería ha mostrado su interés en apoyar este proyecto.

Se impulsará la protección de la propiedad industrial de la técnica propuesta, iniciando en los primeros meses del proyecto el estudio de patentabilidad. Además, el conocimiento generado será transferido en abierto a la comunidad científica mediante, al menos, 3 artículos en revistas de impacto y 4 comunicaciones en congresos internacionales.

El proyecto tendrá un impacto directo en la sociedad, mejorando la eficiencia de las energías renovables, lo que repercutiría en la factura eléctrica de los hogares. Por otro lado, este proyecto acercará la labor de la ciencia al gran público mediante actividades de difusión.
