Mining Engineer by the ETSI de Minas de Oviedo, and Dr.-Ing. by the ETSI de Minas y Energía (UPM). He was the head of AITEMIN's(*) Systems Department from 2000 to 2016, and before Head of Electronics Area (1992-1999) and Junior Engineer (1985-1992) in the same organization.
He has been involved in technological research in the fields of robotics, automation and control for mining and underground construction for more than 30 years. In addition to the participation in national and European research projects, he has been involved in one or other way in the coordination of seven successful European research projects (coordination of submission, actual coordination or both).
Among his main fields of interest are the design of electronic control equipment for use in hazardous (explosive atmospheres, Atex) environments; as well as the development of monitoring, control and automation equipment and software for use in harsh (Mining and underground construction) environments.
He has been member of the European Expert's Committee Technical Group Coal 1 (TGC1), in charge of monitoring the progress of EU-funded research projects in the fields of "Coal mining operation, mine infrastructure and management, unconventional use of coal deposits” since year 2000.
He has an ample range of personal interests, including, but not limited to, restoration of antique (valve) electronics, History, radio and software defined radio, machining, CNC machining, and in general “building Things”
