Dr. João Valente has born in Lisbon, Portugal. He received his M.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Faculty of Science and Technology) in 2008.
From 2007 to 2008 he was junior researcher in the Intelligent Systems for Emergencies and Civil defence (SIED) Laboratory, from the Università degli Studi di Roma "La Sapienza" where he carried the development of his M.Sc. thesis.
In 2008 he joined the Robotics & Cybernetics group from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (in the present CAR UPM-CSIC), where he obtained is M.Sc. (2011) and PhD. (2014) in robotics and automation.
He was also visiting researcher in USA (2012), at the robotics and intelligent systems lab from the City College of New York, and in Belgium (2014), at IRIDIA (Institut de Recherches Interdisciplinaires et de Développements en Intelligence Artificielle) from Université Libre de Bruxelles.
Currently, Dr. Valente is visiting professor and researcher at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. His research interests are Field robotics, Mini Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Remote sensing, Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC), Path planning, Soft computing.
